Welcome to my weblog.  My friends suggested I begin an online journal of my political activism as a way of encouraging and inspiring others to become politically active.  In the words of President Barack Obama, "We are the change we seek."  Now is the time to rise up and work together for the benefit of the country we love.

A little background on me.  I am a 51-year old mother of three living in the Austin, Texas area.  I was born in Austin, but grew up and attended public schools in Irving.  I moved back to the area with my family eighteen years ago.  I was a stay-at-home mom until my youngest started second grade.  It was then that I began working for my local school district as a SpEd paraprofessional.  When my son started high school, I began the college process.  I am almost done with required basic courses, and will soon transfer to university to pursue a degree in Political Science

As a fifth-grader, the Watergate scandal and subsequent resignation of Richard Nixon, became an early classroom lesson in government.  Our commander-in-chief's felonious behavior left a bad taste in my mouth, and elicited in me a wariness of our leaders.  My interest in politics was born that day.

I have long since been vocal on my Facebook page about issues facing our country.  In February, a call to action was made to unite women around the country to fight back against state legislation that was infringing on personal liberties.  The buzz about a new women's movement took social media by storm.  I was quick to join the ranks of the grassroots movement called Unite Women.  In a short month, the national Facebook page boasts over 20,000 members.

Here in Texas, I have been working on outreach to college campuses.  Last week during spring break, I began reaching out to apartment complexes around San Marcos, a college town 25 miles from my home.  Today, I am making my second trip to Victoria which is 60 miles from me.  During my first visit, I worked the two college campuses there.  I also stopped by the local newspaper, The Victoria Advocate, and gave an interview about the movement and the organizational efforts here in Texas.  Today, I intend to staple a War on Women flyer to every bulletin board in town.

Follow me as I saturate my little corner of Texas with word about the war on women in Texas.  Better yet, join me in the trenches.  Learn how at wowtex.org.  View the national website at unitewomen.org.

Peace, Love, Solidarity ~

  1. Thank you! I'm so glad you are speaking out. You're doing so on behalf of thousands of other people who feel the same way. Perry and his ilk are ruining this state. Soon we're going to get him, and any like him, out of our state capitol. We're depending on people like you.
    Best wishes,Linda

  2. Much gratitude, Linda. It is my pleasure to fight against the injustice I've seen perpetratred on Texas citizens at the hands of Perry and his cronies for far too long. Come join us in Austin on 4.28.12!
